The Coliseum is probably the theater with the most impressive facade in Barcelona, adorned with the iconic bulb letters that light up Gran Via when the sun sets. It was inaugurated in October 1923 (it's already a centennial theater!) and at that time, it alternated between cinema screenings and live performances.
The Balañá Group acquired it in the 1950s, programming major movie premieres that have featured stars like George Clooney, Harrison Ford, Pedro Almodóvar, Hilary Swank, and Hugh Grant, among others. During this period, there were a few exceptions in its cinema programming, such as Yerma with Núria Espert and concerts by Joan Manuel Serrat.
